Dermal Fillers

Increased lines and wrinkles are a natural part of getting older. Smile lines, fine lines, wrinkles and folds, and thin lips are signs of aging—but who says you have to wear your age on your face? Dermal fillers are a proven way to restore volume where you need it most. Dermal filler treatments can provide immediate results with little downtime, filling in the fine lines on your face for a smoother, younger appearance. At Cahaba Dermatology, we use injectable fillers that instantly add volume to your face and improve fine lines.

Some of the most common problem areas dermal fillers can correct include:

  • Nasolabial folds (the two folds of skin from the nose to the corner of the mouth)
  • Laugh lines or smile lines
  • Thin lips
  • Chin wrinkles
  • Under-eye hollowness
  • Hollow temples
  • Drooping eyebrows
  • Creases between the eyebrows
  • Sagging corners of the mouth
  • Marionette lines
  • Jawline sculpting
  • Cheek Elevation
  • Facial Volume loss
  • Sagging earlobes

Look Younger Without Going Under the Knife

In the past, achieving a younger look meant getting a full-face lift. Today, however, you can combat naturally occurring lines without plastic surgery. An injectable treatment such as dermal fillers provides natural looking results without going under the knife. Dermal fillers can provide volume and fullness to the skin to correct mild to severe lines and wrinkles.

The results from dermal fillers last for about six to eighteen months depending on the site injected and the type of filler being used. At that time, you will need to schedule another session to continue combating lost volume. Your dermal filler package may involve multiple filler types to best suit the site you wish to correct, and your board-certified dermatologist at Cahaba Dermatology can help you create a personalized plan.

About Dermal Fillers

As you age, your skin naturally produces less elastin, collagen and hyaluronic acid—leading to sagging skin, hollows, fine lines, wrinkles and folds. If you wish to restore a youthful look without surgery, a dermal filler can be the ideal solution. It is an injectable solution that fills in the tissues beneath your top layer of skin.

Dermal fillers replenish the skin’s supply of hyaluronic acid to improve elasticity and volume. You can look more radiant and youthful with full, smooth skin where you usually have lines and wrinkles. Reverse a tired appearance and take years off your face in minutes.

Dermal Fillers have minimal pain and discomfort, and no downtime. You can resume your normal activities immediately after your treatment. The number of injections you will need varies according to the type of filler. We offer different formulas depending on the type and degree of your wrinkles. All patients receive topical anesthesia for greater comfort during your procedure.

Each dermal filler brand and type has unique advantages for the area treated, since each has a different consistency. Our board-certified dermatologists and expert injectors will select the right filler for your site and goals.

Here at Cahaba Dermatology we often combine dermal fillers with facial laser treatments to optimize results and prolong the effects of your facial rejuvenation.

If full correction is not for you, a little ‘tweakment” might be the right choice. After an individualized consultation, you and your doctor can come up with a tailored treatment to make you feel and look amazing!

Types of Dermal Fillers

At Cahaba Dermatology, we utilize various dermal fillers based on their ability to lift, volumize and fill. Most injectable gels contain hyaluronic acid, which boosts the volume and fullness of the skin. Hyaluronic acid is a non-animal based biodegradable product that is naturally occurring. We use the following brands of dermal fillers:

Juvéderm®

Juvéderm uses “next generation” hyaluronic acid approved by the FDA. It is a dermal filler composed of hyaluronic acid (HA), which is a naturally-occurring substance found in the body. Different variations of Juvederm® are available to smooth wrinkles and add natural-looking volume to the mid and upper face. Juvederm family includes: Juvederm Ultra, Juvederm Ultra Plus, Juvederm Voluma, Juvederm Volbella, and Juvederm Vollure.

Restylane

Restylane® is an excellent option for patients looking to fill in hollow areas under the eyes, as well as the nasolabial folds and lips. Restylane® can increase lip size, reduce the appearance of marionette lines, and add volume to the cheeks and temples. This filler is ideal where the skin’s support structures have weakened, causing depressions in the skin. Restylane family includes: Restylane Refyne, Restylane Defyne, Resylane Lyft, Restylane Silk. Restylane Lyft has also been FDA approved to rejuvenate hands.

Belotero

This dermal filler is ideal for immediately correcting lines in the lips and surrounding area.

Radiesse®

Radiesse® can restore volume to the mid and lower face, including the chin and mouth. Radiesse® is composed of calcium-based microspheres and can also stimulate the production of new collagen fibers under skin to restore the skin structure and elasticity. It is a great filler to define the jawline and add volume to hands.

Sculptra®

Sculptra® is made from poly-L-lactic acid and can reinforce the structure of your skin by restoring lost collagen. Upon injection, Sculptra® begins encouraging the production of subsurface collagen, which can reduce wrinkles and fine lines and promote firmer-looking skin

Unlike similar dermal fillers, Sculptra® works to treat facial wrinkles at the source. Sculptra® works deep into the skin’s dermis to replace lost collagen. By restoring depleted collagen, wrinkles and folds will gradually soften for a youthful-looking appearance.
