Photofractional Laser Treatment at Cahaba Dermatology

Photofractional™ Laser Treatments for Full-Spectrum Skin Renewal

Photofractional™ Laser Treatments combine Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and ResurFX™ in the same session to improve both skin tone and skin texture at the same time.

This treatment is used for concerns such as sun spots, age spots, broken capillaries, acne scarring, fine lines, wrinkles, and stretch marks. It can be performed on many areas of the body, including the face, neck, chest, arms, legs, hands, and abdomen.

At Cahaba Dermatology, we’ll review your skin goals and recommend whether combined treatment or a single treatment approach is the best fit for you.

How IPL and ResurFX™ Work Together

IPL targets pigment and vascular-related concerns to help improve overall tone, including sun-related changes, freckles, and visible redness concerns. IPL is non-invasive, treatment is typically brief, and patients usually return to normal activities the same day.

ResurFX™ is a non-ablative fractional resurfacing treatment used to improve fine lines, wrinkles, texture changes, and scarring while supporting collagen remodeling.

When used together as Photofractional™, IPL addresses tone while ResurFX focuses on texture—so both concerns can be treated in one visit when appropriate.

Frequently Asked Questions

What can Photofractional™ Laser Treatments help improve?

Common concerns include sun spots, age spots, broken capillaries, acne scarring, fine lines, wrinkles, stretch marks, and uneven tone/texture.

Where can this treatment be performed?

It can be used on the face, neck, chest, arms, legs, hands, and abdomen.

What happens during the IPL portion of treatment?

Light pulses are delivered to the treatment area and adjusted for your skin type and skin tone. Sessions are usually about 15–30 minutes. Mild redness can happen for a few hours.

How many sessions will I need?

Treatment plans are personalized. In many cases, a series of 2–5 treatments spaced about 3 weeks apart is common, depending on the concern being treated.

What should I expect after treatment?

Some temporary redness may occur. In some cases, treated skin may darken and peel over 1–2 weeks, and tattoos in treated areas may lighten. Daily sun protection and avoiding direct sun exposure are important after treatment.

Can I choose IPL or ResurFX™ separately instead of combining them?

Yes. IPL and ResurFX™ are also available as standalone treatments. We’ll help you decide whether single-treatment or combined treatment is best for your goals.
