Laser Skin Resurfacing for Wrinkles, Scars, Tone, and Texture
Laser skin resurfacing is a more intensive approach for skin damage, texture concerns, and scarring. With modern fractional technology, only a portion of the skin is treated at a time, leaving surrounding skin intact to support faster healing and safer recovery.
At Cahaba Dermatology, we take a global approach to rejuvenation. Depending on your goals, resurfacing may be combined with fillers, neuromodulators, and skin-tightening procedures for natural-looking improvement.
Laser resurfacing is performed in our office by Dr. Groysman and may be used to treat:
– Fine lines and wrinkles
– Pucker marks and frown lines
– Brown spots and uneven skin color
– Acne scarring, surgical scars, and stretch marks
– Lax skin
Resurfacing Treatments for Different Skin Goals
CO2RE® is our most intensive resurfacing option for deeper wrinkles, advanced sun damage, acne/surgical scars, and uneven tone/texture. It removes damaged outer skin and stimulates deeper renewal for significant improvement.
Most patients should plan for 7–14 days of downtime, with redness and sensitivity during healing.

ResurFX™ is a non-ablative fractional treatment that supports collagen and elastin to improve fine lines, texture, and mild-to-moderate scarring—without removing the outer skin layer. It’s a strong option for patients wanting meaningful improvement with lighter recovery.
Treatment is typically 15–30 minutes after topical anesthetic, and most patients describe post-treatment effects as mild redness/swelling for up to 24 hours and a rough texture for 1–2 days.

eMatrix™ uses sublative bipolar radiofrequency to treat below the skin surface, helping improve texture, fine wrinkles, and scars with minimal disruption to the top layer of skin. It is commonly done as a series for cumulative results.
Most patients experience short-term, sunburn-like redness for a few days.

Sofwave™ is an ultrasound-based treatment focused on skin firmness and laxity support. It can complement resurfacing by addressing tightening concerns as part of a broader rejuvenation plan.
This is often selected for patients who want lift/tightening support without an ablative recovery process.

Frequently Asked Questions
Laser resurfacing is not a substitute for a facelift and cannot remove excessive skin or jowls. It can improve folds, creases, and overall texture/tone, but wrinkles may improve significantly without being fully removed.
Most patients rest the day of treatment. Early healing includes redness, dryness, peeling/flaking, and sensitivity. Many patients can use mineral makeup around day 7, but pinkness and sensitivity may continue for several weeks.
Most procedures are completed successfully, and significant complications are uncommon. Possible side effects include crusting, swelling, discoloration, infection risk, or pigment changes. Following pre- and post-care instructions is important to reduce risk.
Many patients see major improvement after one treatment. In some cases, a second treatment may be recommended depending on treatment depth and goals. Maintenance treatments may be needed over time.
Arrive with clean, dry skin. Avoid retinols for 3 days before/after treatment. Avoid tanning before and after treatment. Share history of cold sores, Accutane use in the last 6 months, keloids, or sun-sensitivity disorders with your provider.
Mild redness/swelling for up to 24 hours is common, with possible rough texture for 1–2 days. Makeup is typically okay the next day. Daily broad-spectrum SPF 30+ is recommended starting the day after treatment.
Downtime is usually short. Temporary sunburn-like redness may last 2–3 days, and most patients return to work the next day.
