VBEAM®

Vbeam® Laser Treatment for Treating Redness, Veins, Birthmarks, Scars

Facial veins, scars, birthmarks, rosacea, and certain red bumps can all be treated with Vbeam® laser treatments with excellent results and no damage to the surrounding skin.

At Cahaba Dermatology, we are on the forefront of skin treatment technologies. And one of the best pieces of technology we have in our arsenal of treatments is the Vbeam® Perfecta. It’s a pulsed dye laser that we use as an alternative to surgical excision. Issues such as facial veins, scars, birthmarks, rosacea, some sun damage, early stretch marks, and certain red bumps can all be treated with our Vbeam® laser treatments. Our patients report excellent results from this procedure with no damage to the surrounding skin. Our board-certified dermatologists utilize the most current model of Candela’s V-Beam Laser. This is called the Vbeam® Perfecta and is considered to be the most effective and safest approach available for the laser treatment of veins, rosacea, red discoloration, and scars.

How does the Vbeam® Laser Treatment work?

We will treat the selected area with a brief, but intense, gentle burst of light that will destroy the blood vessels being treated but leave the rest of the face alone. Red veins respond to this treatment better than the blue arteries, and the effects of the Vbeam® laser treatment are often immediately noticeable. We apply topical anesthetic medications for those having a Vbeam® treatment, which is a non-invasive procedure, and little more than a brief sting is all most patients experience.

What should I expect after the Vbeam® Treatment?

There may be a sensation of warmth in the area after the Vbeam® treatment, much like a slight sunburn would produce. You will be given ice packs following treatment. There may also be slight swelling that lasts no more than a few days, or slight bruising or redness that goes away within a week.

If the Vbeam® laser treatment was used to eliminate a port wine birthmark, there may be brief crusting in the area treated. You will be asked to ice the rest of the day after your treatment to decrease redness.

How many treatments will I need to eliminate the blemish or unsightly vein?

While the treatment’s benefits can often be seen after one short office visit, two to four treatments are often necessary to produce the best results.

At Cahaba Dermatology, we have the most current model of Candela’s V-Beam Laser. This is called the Vbeam® Perfecta and is considered to be the most effective and safest approach to laser treatment of veins, rosacea, red discoloration, and scars.

EXCEL V

The Excel V laser is the newest, most advanced laser for treating vascular skin conditions. It combines two different wavelengths to make it the most effective, versatile, and powerful vascular laser available. This includes a powerful 532 nm KTP laser wavelength, in addition to two 1064 nm Nd:Yag laser modes.

The laser uses a unique high-power green laser beam to precisely treat visible vessels and blemishes. The light is specifically absorbed by the blood vessels in the skin. These blood vessels are coagulated and then reabsorbed by the body during the natural healing process.

What conditions can Excel V treat?

  • Spider veins
  • Leg veins
  • Rosacea & Diffuse Redness
  • Facial Telangiectasias
  • Port Wine Stains
  • Scars
  • Hemangiomas
  • Cherry Angiomas
  • Large Pores
  • Wrinkle Reduction
  • Uneven Texture

How many treatments are needed?

The number of treatment depends on various parameters, including the size, thickness and color of the vascular lesion. On average, 3 treatments are required.

What are the possible side-effects?

Although many patients report few if any side effects, those most commonly noticed are slight reddening and local swelling of the skin. Some patients may experience bruising and, in rare instances, blistering may occur.

What are the post treatment instructions?

  • Do not wear makeup on the day of treatment
  • No sun-tanning or self-tanners 4 weeks prior to treatment
  • Some medications or supplements should be avoided due to increasing the risk of bruising
  • Avoid treatments that may irritate the skin for 1-2 weeks prior to treatment (waxing)
  • History of cold sores may require an anti-viral prescription prior to treatment
